Going out to a restaurant is really hard to navigate from a Ray Peat perspective. Ray Peat NEVER went out to them. Besides the bad oils they use the preservatives in the food, MSG and inorganic grains and produce and lower grade meats do not make it an elevated experience for me.
In my everyday I find myself meeting friends out for dinner. I use to dread it because the outing really set me back. If I was trying to lose weight then it put a couple extra pounds on that took two days to get back off. I also had bad sleep and felt a little polluted the next day. I have made it a stern habit to go to just a few local restaurants because they are the ones that have a few good options for me.
One of my strategies especially when going out to a new restaurant is to pull up the menu online and decide what my best choice is BEFORE I go to a restaurant. Conversations and having to order quickly just makes me decide on something that I usually regret later. I frequent a particular Thai restaurant on most of my dinners out with friends and I still don’t haven’t figured on many “Peaty” choices. Besides all the starches and bad oils I also don’t eat meat at night because it ruins my sleep. So my best choices at a Thai restaurant is a shellfish dish and this mango sticky rice dessert. The sauce is made with coconut milk and pairing carbs with fats at night makes this my first best choice for the evening and my sleep. This is so SO good and feels good too! I make it at home as well on occasion with dairy instead of the coconut milk. I will have to be mindful to post it on my RECIPES page soon. I know staying healthy outside the home is a real issue for so many people so I will start posting my choices in this MY EVERYDAY section. Please let us know in the “Comments” section below of what Ray Peat inspired foods you are finding in restaurants, we all could use a little help with this.
