I don’t think that it is bad to drink water in this context, the understanding that I have is one that most foods contain a lot of water, you do not want to drink too much water as in doing so you can cause the cells to take up too much water and cause some inflammation to occur. This would potentially displace magnesium and potassium and cause sodium and calcium to enter the cell which draws water into the cell. Typically magnesium and potassium are intercellular (inside the cell) whereas calcium and sodium are extra cellular (outside the cell) sodium draws water, so ideally the cell is typically drier.
      This is the reason that most electrolyte drinks will contain sodium, potassium and magnesium as well as sucrose or some type of sugar to maintain oxidative phosphorylation, and replenish lost minerals after a strenuous excercise.
