A Mexican restaurant isn’t too bad where PUFA and starches are concerned. The problem for me is avoiding the chips and salsa and guacamole. I generally get a carne asada plate which takes care of more than half the battle by getting rid of the chips because that guacamole, salsa and other sauces that each restaurant has to offer goes really well with this meat. I like perusing the menu for other sauces to try as well like “mole” or a smoky chipotle sauce if they have it. Because I don’t eat meat at night because it hinders my good sleep I wont order carne asada for dinner. Carne asada is a lunch only meal for me. Though I don’t gain fat eating a portion of carne asada and taking home the rest the scale might go up the next morning, but I know it is only muscle weight. If I am really serious about losing fat this albondigas soup is satisfying and filling. It has a couple of meatballs with some chunks of potatoes and squash in a clear broth. This is REALLY low in fat which affords me some rich egg yolk flan. I usually get someone to share a flan with me, like I did on this trip, otherwise I bring the rest home and have it with my coffee in the morning. My friend thought it unusual that I started my lunch with the flan followed by the soup. I kicked myself halfway through it not taking a photo. Oh well next time!
