A Bright Life Inspired by Dr. Raymond Peat
I’ve been craving peanut butter really bad. Does anyone else ever experience cravings for PUFA rich food? how do we deal with them?
I do not crave PUFA foods. I think I have so deeply absorbed Ray’s message that I know on a deep level that these foods are poison. I have not tasted a donut in 12 years, for example.
The problem I have is that I will find a Peaty substitute for cravings. Donuts don’t tempt me at all. But I could eat my homemade pound cake a couple of times a day if it was available. Sigh. (I have to limit my baking severely.)
If I go to a restaurant I know I will be eating PUFA’s so I do like Ray said and have saturated fat with the meal to displace the PUFA’s rather than store them. So I will have a glass of milk before I go and another when I get home. Having it before also curbs my appetite do I don’t eat double in the restaurant. He also said that taking vitamin E and aspirin is protective as well. I think if you are at home wanting PUFA’s drink a glass of milk first and see if you still want it. Eating something healthy usually curbs my craving for unhealthy things.
That does make sense. I did down some peanut butter last night but I think I’ll replace it with coconut oil from now on. This diet is very restrictive??
I wonder what peat said about seeds and nuts. Those have PUFA yes – but they also have loads of vit E so does it cancel out??

I find my Ray Peat inspired diet to be the most liberal of any diet and so have tried them all. It is a protective diet. The problem for most people is that it is not a convenient diet, why because our food chain is contaminated and toxic and nobody wants to go to the trouble of cooking to remedy those issues. Taking the path of least resistance is our society now. Coincidentally I posted on my Instagram two days ago about my love of peanut butter and jelly. It takes me 3 minutes to make my better version. I post daily on my Instagram page strategies and health tips on how I am navigating the land mines I am faced with in my daily life and I am not wishing for PUFAs because I am satisfied with my more elevated foods. Here is what I posted about my dear peanut butter and jelly, and by the way I already finished that jar I made and feel really good about it! You can find me there at: @raymendeat
That does look good. But macadamia nuts are expensive for me yet.
Going to have to stick to my sorghum, beans and coconut oil fried onions for now.
I will definitely keep an eye on the instagram. It does look good.
I do agree about this diet. It is good. I still remember the first time I tried coconut oil. Eye opening.
What about craving OILY FISH. But its fresh from the sea. I was thinking this is ok as it is very omega 3 rich and would NOT be oxidised if freshly caught? I was smoking fish a few days ago and its such a shame not to eat them? they don’t feel like they suppress my metabolism?
Seems like theres a lot of nuance to this peat stuff. But in general it shows me natural = better, more balanced, healthier and better for the soul.
