I’m not trying to lose weight, necessarily. I feel my whole life I’ve been underweight. Skinny fat as you said. I’m 110 now (and have been all year) but I can see I lost muscle and gained fat. I was 117 in my prime 20 years ago. I would love to lose the little visceral and subcutaneous fat I do have now, and gain muscle weight. That’s my goal. And to feel more energetic too, of course.
Go with my cravings. Thanks for that insight! I usually don’t crave sweets. Never have. My cravings are for salt and vinegar. I really enjoy sweet/salty combinations like the guava shells with goat cheese, but I would consider that more of a dessert. It’s a 180 degree mindset shift I’m making. It concerns me that I don’t know how to calculate the proper ratio of goat cheese to guava shells. Is it by calories? I don’t know where to start with portion size either. Eat that until I’m satiated? For example, how do you know how much cream cheese to add to your flat iron steak, or how much cheddar to add to your pesto? Maybe I’m obsessing too much about the fat in dairy?
I also prefer seafood to red meat. Is the tryptophan/phosphorus problem there too?

I keep my portion sizes small and make them mono meals meaning I don’t eat sides in my meals. If I have meat then I will follow it up with a spoonful of honey or sip on a coffee with maple syrup in it. If I want scalloped potatoes then I make it my dinner and have seconds if I want. I eat a serving or two of cheese pairing it with fruit. Like you I have never been a sweet eater, not even as a child. Don’t worry about the calories and don’t eat until full. I never want to bog down my digestion. The most important goals for me in a day is getting enough protein and get enough calcium. I can’t get enough of either if I am satiety on starches. Below are a few of my many small meals…

I love seafood so much , but being too heavy on it can cause imbalances and the heavy metal accumulation from eating tuna and other seafood was giving my mercury poisoning. Since then I try to be careful overdoing any one thing. I never did sign up for drinking all the milk and orange juice other “Peaters” do. I think chewing is good for people. So to your question about the phosphorus in seafood, my cutting out grains eliminated a lot of aging phosphorus from my diet so I don’t worry about it in seafood. As for red meat I forgot to mention the aging iron. Between the tryptophan, iron and phosphorus it just is not an everyday staple that I can afford for my skin and hair sake.

She did research for the most effective workout and found a study that said jumping beats running. So she started jumping for one minute at a time, a few times a day. She lost the weight in nine months and has kept it off for a year. It sounded very do-able so I am giving it a try. It seems to be working for me, about 10 days in. No change in diet. I will update in a few weeks.
December 18, 2024 at 12:39 am #4132Update on the jumping regimen (five times a day, one-minute bouts: I got weight loss and increased stamina for two weeks. Third week the weight loss slowed, as did the strength and endurance gains. Into the fourth week, I sensed I was regressing on fitness. I was a bit spent by the third bout of jumping. Pushing through was not a great idea. I slowed the workouts, two one day, three one day, one. Today I did none for the first time. Just achy, and I think I need to recover.
So, it was an interesting experiment. Weight loss without calorie reduction, for a short time at least. But the jolting seems to take a toll on me. When I am feeling strong again, I will try two or three bouts a day instead, with a rest day once or twice a week and see how that goes. It might be a good maintenance program. I would not expect anything more than that.
It was easy to do. That was a big plus for me.

I have been liking squats at my kitchen counter while waiting for something to cook or coffee to brew to be an effective exercise that takes no extra time and yields excellent results. I have a high counter I like to use which has a good lip to grab firmly and I started with a set of twenty. I go down low with my legs shoulder-width apart like I am going to sit on a low sofa and then come right back up. Now I thrust my hips a little forward when I come up for an extra squeeze. I am now at 60 squats easily straight through. I see a wonderful difference in my behind!
