Dragon Fruit & Orange-Ade

I grow many kinds of fruit, and am particularly interested in exotic fruits, and planted many fruits that I have never tasted like achacha fruit, white sugarloaf pineapples, pineapple and tropical pink guavas, ice cream banana, peanut butter fruit and many others. I am just playing the waiting game now and everything is starting to wake up from the winter and bloom. I am excited. In the meantime I have had access to some good tropical fruits and recently and it has been fun tasting flavors unknown to me. I bought a red dragon fruit and a yellow one recently. The yellow “Pitahaya” was amazing and addicting .I would be growing it if they weren’t seed ridden. The seeds were part of the addiction, adding a pleasant crunch to the juicy grape-like fruit. The red dragon fruit however had no favor at all. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t full of nutrition so I turned it into an Agua Fresca or as I call it a sweetened fruit water. The first time I made my fruit water with dragon fruit the water was a deep reddish purple so I am back to my frozen version with the red flesh again.

This new brand of dragon fruit came in 3.5-ounce portions with four portions to a bag. I used two portions, 7-ounces, and put them in a pitcher and added three cups of filtered water.

After the water and fruit had spent a day and a night together, I strain it all through a sieve into a clean vessel. Then I squeezed the juice of two oranges and put it through the sieve as well and sweeten it all with white sugar to taste. I rely heavily on these fruit waters for a lot of my nutrition which enables me to get along great with any supplements. I also notice my skin looking healthier from all the colors in the various fruits I use. Having fruit like this has been a great fat loss tool for me and a way to keep weight in check. It is fast fuel for energy without all the bloating fiber. Too much fructose from straight juice can be too many calories in one shot, so balancing it with easy to use white sugar is the perfect solution.
