We are heading into prime vitamin d making time.

My preferred thing to do is get up at sunrise and spend all morning out in the sun barefoot.  Then about 20 minutes at solar noon, and the evening red light after the uvb has gone.

I had many years while my child was young that I could do this. Now, I am back in the corporate environment and have the typical breaks and lunch for sun.

I am hoping the sun I can get is sufficient,  but I worry about it.  I never burned while I had the hours of morning sun exposure.  I have been avoiding pufa for many years, so I hope I am somewhat depleted of it.  Ray thought problems with sun exposure came from pufa in the skin.

I’ll be spending a lot of time in the sun this spring and summer. I have not done it in awhile, but I liked going to a local park and sitting on top of a hillside to watch the sun rise. There is a window there that that early morning sunlight is beneficial for eye health. Unfortunately, I forget in what way. haha

I am sure that PUFA is the cause of sunburn. I am a natural blonde and after my first year of avoiding PUFA’s I stopped getting sunburns. When Covid hit I ate a lot of things I shouldn’t have and I started burning again, that was my clue that I needed to clean up my act. I started a garden last year and was out in the sun sometimes for 8 hours and got so tanned, and never wore sunscreen or burned. I had to shorten my gardening days because I was getting too tanned. Now that it is winter I have to find extra ways to get vitamin D, so I eat extra egg yolk and put my sliced mushrooms out in the sun to absorb vitamin D. Mushrooms are fascinating. I discovered Lion’s Mane mushrooms recently, and what a little creature they are. I am posting my recipe today for the mock crab cakes I made with them.

Since I have reduced PUFA intake, I do not burn as easily when I spend time outside in sunlight.

I think natural daylight and sunshine is irreplaceable for health! Maybe you can get close to a window to get the sun through there? I find that even looking out at the blue sky is very beneficial, even if there isn’t sun hitting me directly.
