From your experience of reintroducing carbohydrate to your dietary system, how did you go about doing this and how did it work for you in the beginning?
Are you referring to sugars or starches?

Speaking of carbohydrates I saw this study where they took three groups of kids and locked them in a room each with a different breakfast, a bowl of regular oatmeal, a bowl of steel-cut oats and an omelet. All three breakfasts were the same amount of calories. They told the kids to knock on the door for more food when they got hungry, and I guess they got more of the same. The kids who ate the oatmeal ate 81% more food than the omelet group and the steel-cut oats ate 50% more.

In terms of reintroducing carbohydrates, the question would be one of what type of diet were you consuming before? For example Keto, carnivore, vegetarian, vegan, etc.
I would consider the slow approach to be the best approach on this, simply because one does not know how your system might react to a larger quantity of carbohydrates, it is also possible that the micro biome might have been changed and that combined with any possible comprimisated gut lining could potentially allow endotoxin to be released into the bloodstream. The possibility of certain mineral and vitamin deficiencies might also be an issue and for that reason I think that starting perhaps with a single piece of fruit to see how the body reacts might be the best approach, if there are no problems then you can slowly build from there, but I would try different fruits individually to determine if any gut irritation might occur this way you would know that say apples are good but bananas are problematic. Then moving into juices, and dried fruits and honey. If one were so inclined you could then later try white rice, or potatoes well cooked to see how you fare with starches at least these would be the safer options.
I never liked sweet things my whole life so adding them into my diet was a little tough for me at first, especially adding sugar to coffee. I still don’t prefer it, so sometimes I add a little maple syrup to my coffee instead and for the minerals too. Adding sugar sources to my day keeps me calmer, satisfied longer and makes me sleep better. Quickly digested sugar sources like juice I extract from fruit, raw honey, maple syrup and plain white sugar was the missing key to my health puzzle.
I would like to refresh this page for a friend who has terrible digestive issues from a longtime Carnivore diet. I suggested going slowly and starting with raw honey and boiled red potatoes for first carbs. Has anyone else transitioned successfully from a Carnivore/Keto diet to carbs?
Dr Mercola has changed position going from Keto to a more Peat centered approach. His suggestion was to go slow because as you mentioned above Cari starting with sugar in your coffee and gradually increasing the levels as your body becomes accustomed to the shift in the carbohydrate levels in the diet.
In the case of the Carnivore friend you have, if honey would be to big of a change. They may need to go even simpler, slower and with lower amounts more frequently. The suggestion he made was to use glucose mixed in water and sip on it slowly throughout the day until the body adjusts. Dextrose is I believe pure glucose or almost pure. But this may be the route they need to take depending on their situation.
