Nutrition for young men?

As a young person growing up in this time I’ve learn a lot of useful information not only from Dr Peat, but also from ‘haidut’ (researcher/poster on the RPF).
I’ve realised that you need to optimise your hormones. That we have been lied to about male hormones.
I remember when I have felt the most driven, the most physically strong, the most confident I have also been the most empathetic.
So this alone shows me we have been lied to about male hormones. I really want to optimise my energy levels, focus, ability to plan and organise things so I can eventually work on my goals.
This makes me wonder, are we just meant to do a ‘meat and potatoes diet’ to develop properly? Or what does it take? the waters are so muddied because of everything going on in our world its hard to take a breather and say ‘I should do this’
Should vegetables or fruits even be eaten? I know Dr Peat spoke a lot about vegetables as food (or not food). It seems a lot of plant chemicals found in fruits and vegetables block DHT which is one of the main male hormones?
If only Dr Peat had written a book about ‘nutrition for men’. Then all would be good in the world…. Balance.
March 21, 2024 at 3:05 pm #930Ray Peat said in those olden days, when people had to live off the land, that in the Springtime is when their health issues came on from plant matter, so you can deduct vegetables from your question. I have two sons, one who is near his thirties and the other in his early thirties. The oldest is a meat and potatoes guy, doesn’t go to the gym and works a sedentary job and is muscular without health problems. My youngest was a vegetarian for many years and had many health and hormone problems from that. At one point he was very frail and thin from being a vegetarian. He finally went back to meat and potatoes and his calves are impressive now, and he doesn’t go to the gym either. Look at men a hundred years ago eating mostly eggs, meat, GOOD milk and potatoes, they spent long days working hard on their land well into their old age. I think the food part is that simple. The part to really work on is getting daylight in your eyes, turn off the television and stimulate your brain with reading and creative things. Getting good sleep is so important. Reducing stress by grounding and finding ways to laugh. I agree with Ray Peat, from my own experience, that people should not use supplements unless there is a particular need for them, and to use them only for a short time. Get nutrition from food, which was made in balance with other vitamins, minerals and such so the body can use it properly. People playing God with their bodies throwing an overload of one thing at it and hoping something sticks is putting people’s health farther down a rabbit hole. More is not more. Trust your body to do right by itself and give it high quality food, and don’t overthink too much because sometimes less is more.
March 21, 2024 at 3:39 pm #937If you read Peat’s newletters from the past 20 years, he always recommends the same foods over and over. If he wrote a book “Nutrition for Young Men,” do you really think he would start recommending high PUFA foods, while telling you to avoid milk and OJ?
I would guess the main reason you think the “waters are muddied” in this regard is that you don’t know who to listen to, so you just end up listening to everybody. This, of course, will lead to confusion. If you try and use Peat’s princicples while also adopting vegan principles and keto principles and the “Vitamin A is a toxin” principles, you won’t have anything left to eat. That may be an extreme example, but even mixing any two of those philosophies would be highly restrictive.
So if you are going to listen to anyone, it would be someone who has the physical body or health you would like to emulate. If you are looking for the classic bodybuilder type, listen to Steve Reeves and Vince Gironda. If you want longevity, listen to men like Peat, Linus Pauling, Abram Hoffer, and E. D. Weinberg. If you want to look frail and weak in your 40’s, listen to Michael Greger. If you want to look like everyone else, listen to government guidelines and eat by default with today’s modern foods. If it’s any faddish new concept (like “Low Vitamin A”), just know you are venturing into places that aren’t very well known, and maybe go to pubmed and see what happens in animal studies that are fed a low A diet.
Beyond that, you should always judge by your own results. Eggs are a great food, but if you are getting constant allergic reactions to them, you shouldn’t eat them regularly (although maybe you could test them out every six months or so, to see if anything changed). This goes back to Peat’s main principle, Percieve, Think, Act.
March 22, 2024 at 1:21 am #984DHT is not ‘the’ main male hormone. Your youthful steroid hormones, pregnenolone, progesterone, and DHEA will produce testosterone and DHT in your body in the proper ratios.

This is making a lot of sense. I am very up and down still mood wise from mercury poisoning. I got some nice citrus pectin to detox.
Today I got some raw milk, from cows fed peas and silage.
I feel like todays potatoes lack minerals. There is a potato but no life force…. I need to grow my own food for me and my community there is no way out but my health is so fked from charlies principles that its hard to find the energy to do so. Im going to relax and let myself get pulled along by my instincts for now.
Gawdawdg, that makes sense, I just found it interesting the discoveries on the forum and my own experiences. Shows whats really right.
I do wonder, if I grew even just sorghum + potatoes if I could live off those for extended periods.
Watch this if you want your mind blown… It is lengthy though.
