Sweetened condensed milk can be used to make dulce de leche in the oven with just one ingredient: sweetened condensed milk. Here’s a recipe:
Preheat the oven to 425°F
Pour sweetened condensed milk into a shallow baking dish, like a pie plate or loaf pan
Cover the dish tightly with foil
Place the baking dish in a larger pan, like a roasting pan or cake pan
Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches about halfway up the side of the baking dish
Bake for 60–90 minutes, or until the mixture is a light caramel brown
Check the mixture every 15–30 minutes, and continue cooking if needed
The longer the mixture cooks, the darker and thicker it will become
Remove from the oven and whisk until smooth
Store in the fridge
Dulce de leche is a creamy, dreamy substance that’s often used as an ingredient in desserts. It’s made by heating sweetened milk until it caramelizes.
