      I love chocolate–chocolate cake and cookies and ice cream more than chocolate bars. But I have occasional instant reactions to pure chocolate. My tongue or the side of my cheek will develop a bleb in seconds. And twice, years ago, the same type or organic dark chocolate from Trader Joe’s gave me a kind of food poisoning–though I didn’t put two and two together right away. That was one of the occasions when a dose of Progest-E detoxed me within one minute. Quite an amazing little thing to happen. And it has happened a couple of other times, too. Once was for tuna poisoning. I haven’t eaten tuna since. But I still go for chocolate. I mean, hey, I’ll take the risk. I always remember Ray’s citing the oldest person on record, the French woman who ate a kilo of chocolate a week. My mother, who was a chocoholic, could eat almost a whole box of Russell Stover nuts and chewy and feel great. She would brag that she could clean the whole house afterward, it gave her such energy. 🙂

      I wonder if your reaction to the chocolate from Trader Joe’s and the tuna might be related to heavy metals possibly? <span class=”atwho-inserted” contenteditable=”false” data-atwho-at-query=”@Lilac”>@Lilac</span> There has been some discussion on cocao containing high levels of heavy metal contamination from the past couple of years. I wonder if anyone might have some data to verify or refute this claim?

      If lead safe mama heavy metal testing is legit, every chocolate product they have tested has had concerning levels of heavy metals.

        I have been reading MWD dmso series and purchased some.

        I have been using it, randomly.

        About once a month I have about a tablespoon in water orally.  For all the reported benefits, I think it might be helpful. I do it on the weekends,  Saturday morning,  because it dies produce the garlic/oyster odor.

        I have some eye floaters and have started to put it topical around my eyes after reading about that. I am looking for a new borosilicate glass container to keep it in. I basically do 50 50 mix with distilled water.

        Nothing notable on the vision or floaters yet, I have just done it about a week.

        I have a few spots on skin that I am putting it on. One mole I have in the past put haidut melonon on and it keeps it under control.

        I then decided to do it on my entire face. I have nice skin with small pores, no wrinkles save for a few fine ones starting around eyes (60yrs, so acceptable I guess).

        Right around the side of my upper lip though I have an area that I thought I was starting to see aging skin with the pores a little larger. I put dmso on several times at night. I also had just gotten a beef tallow lotion with Manuka, calendula,  and niacinamide.  The pores are noticeably smaller. The skin more hydrated.  I am not sure if it is the dmso, lotion, or combination.  But I am thankful.

          This product is a recommendation from Tamara Rubin “leadsafemama”. Her testing is saying it is non detect for heavy metal.

          I linked to it from her email about the product, so if there is a affiliate code to her, that is not intended.

          There are dissenting voices to her work, I am not sure where I fall in beliefs of her or not. Especially after reading the Pierre Kory info on minerals. I am currently trying to figure that out. 🤔  so much info, so little time.  I try to defer to Ray Peat abd keep it simple.

            My supply of incandescent lights is almost gone.

            I cannot do led.

            Has anyone found an alternative that is acceptable?

            Ray said a bright light first thing you wake up is needed, cited a rabbit study. I am lagging in remembering Peat info- have had some years of little time to keep up.

            I use ruby lux near infrared A bulb in my brooder lights. In morning, and then in winter when I get home from work. They are warm and feel good. But I am thinking I maybe need a different bright brooder light that is full spectrum in morning for what Ray Peat was talking about.

                I love the Midwestern Doctor info. It seems to be old school, the same as Ray Peat was.

                For salt I use diamond Krystal kosher salt and Maldon sea salt.  Years ago atom bergstrom recommended diamond Krystal, saying it was very pure. If “leadsafemama” info is legit and accurate,  both of these salts test Clean. The diamond Krystal  website says it has less sodium by volume.

                “Diamond Crystal® kosher salt was developed over 130 years ago using a craft evaporation process that creates unique hollow, multifaceted salt crystals. Unlike other kosher salts, Diamond Crystal® does not use additives nor mechanical compaction and it’s still crafted in the same facility it was originally crafted.
